Manicure: Definition, Types, Health Risks

Over the past few years, gel polish has been gaining momentum, surpassing the popularity of regular nail polish. One of the reasons is that they can be worn for several weeks, as well as their shiny appearance that lasts until you remove them. Generally, a beauty salon offers high-quality nail services. Nail service prices can be higher than if you do it in your home but it is worth it.

Manicure is a service that “is a set of procedures for mechanical or chemical effects on the nails and the skin around the nails in order to meet the hygienic needs of the client.” In simple words, during a manicure, they shape the nails, treat the cuticle, and, if desired, cover the nails with varnish or gel polish. You can also make different designs instead of a plain coating. Stickers, sparkles, rubbing, rhinestones, and freehand drawings can be used as a design. Usually, they pay for it separately.

A manicure can be done on your nails, as well as nail extensions. This procedure is called nail extension. It costs more than doing a manicure on natural nails. On average, a gel polish manicure in salons is not expensive. Usually, for the coating and manicure when building up, they pay separately. Many more masters do nail strengthening. In this case, either the usual base for gel polish is used – it should be thick, or gel, bio gel, acrylic, or poly gel. The same materials can be used for nail extensions.

Types of manicures.

The most common types of a manicure are hardware, classic and combined. The difference lies in how the master will remove the cuticle – a thin strip of skin at the base of the nail. It is believed that with her the nail looks ugly.

With a hardware manicure, the cuticle is processed using a special apparatus. When trimming, use scissors or tweezers. When combined, both methods are combined: usually, the apparatus is used first, and then the remains of the cuticle are cut off.

Each of the manicure options has its pros and cons.

Hardware manicure. When doing a manicure with a machine, it is impossible to cut the cuticle. Hardware manicure is the most gentle among other types. But if such a manicure is done by a bad master, there is a risk of damaging the nail plate or the skin around the nail.

Edged manicure is otherwise called classic. This option of manicure is cheaper than hardware and combined. If the master is inaccurate, it can injure the skin around the cuticle. At the same time, American dermatologists believe that it is impossible to cut the cuticle: this increases the risk of skin infection.

Combined manicures should also be done by a qualified specialist. The result after such a manicure is of the highest quality. If the service is provided by a bad master, he can damage the skin or nail with the device or cut the skin.

How long can you wear the cover?

According to the manufacturers of gel polish, the coating can be worn for no more than two to three weeks on the hands and four to five on the legs. Ordinary varnish should also not be worn for too long: nails can become weak, brittle, and begin to delaminate.

But many girls neglect this rule and wear coverage for more than a month, and some even longer than two months. You can’t do this: as the nail grows, the part with gel polish moves forward, therefore, the center of gravity shifts. The nail can be broken. In the worst case, the fungus can develop in places where the varnish is peeled off, where dirt and moisture get in.

On the feet, the likelihood of this increases due to the fact that when walking in shoes there is pressure on the nail, and in closed shoes and boots, the feet are in a humid environment.
